The Shooting of Mario Herrera

The Shooting of Mario Herrera

17 year old, Felipe Vazquez faces 1st degree murder after he shoots 23 year veteran officer. Mario Herrera in the line of duty.  Office Herrera passed away 12 days later and leaves behind his wife and four children.

On August 26th, Mario Herrera was serving a warrant arrest on Felipe for the connection in the March stabbing of 36 year old Edward Varejcka. When Mario arrived at his home, Felipe broke a window attempting to escape.  When doing so, he shot at Mario and a few other officers but shot Mario in the chest.  He wasn’t wearing a vest. He was then taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Two weeks later, he sadly passed away but was honored for his service to his family, friends, neighbors and community. This tragic event happened because a teenager wanted to act out. Some teenagers think it’s cool to be bad – STAY IN YOUR BOOKS. It’s way more cool to get an education than to be proud of taking someone’s life.
