Stop Bullying!


According to Merriam Webster the definition of bullying is abuse and mistreatment of someone vulnerable by someone stronger, more powerful.

A bully is one who is habitually cruel, insulting, or threatening to others who are weaker, smaller, or in some way vulnerable.

So many kids ages 12-18 get bullied everyday. A 9 year old committed suicide after being bullied at school for coming out gay. Any type of bullying is not ok. Cyberbullying is the electronic posting of mean-spirited messages about a person (such as a student) often done anonymously. Approximately 4,400 commit suicide every year because of bullying! Half the time bullying is the reason for suicide. Students that have experienced bullying/cyberbullying are 2 times more likely to commit suicide. Most people who get bullied feel sad and angry. While others don’t care and feel annoyed. If you see someone who is getting bullied you should be a bystander! A bystander basically means one who is present but not taking part in a situation or event. So if you do see someone get bullied you should remove the person from the situation and comfort them. Tell a trusted adult about it. If you are getting cyberbullied than tell someone or a trusted adult. Another way to prevent bullying is to check in with a teacher/counselor from time to time.
