Standing for Justice at UNL

You may have heard about the UNL crisis from your parents or the news. On Tuesday, August 24th, several hundred people gathered around the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity in protest against the frat house for a recent sexual assault allegation. The house has faced previous allegations against them for the same things. The most recent was a 17 year old girl who was sexually assaulted between 11:30 pm and midnight on Monday August 23rd 2021. With that being said, this is the 103rd rape or attempted rape reported to university police at UNL.

As the protests have gone on, more cases pointed towards the house have emerged. I think the protests have given these victims a voice at UNL and a voice against the perpetrators. The protesters were chanting things like ,“if you don’t stop it you’re guilty too” and “even my dog understands when I say no.” I think it’s disgusting that it takes all these protests for the victims to be heard. People even made a change.org petition to ban Fiji forever which ultimately helped with the decision as it had 200,000 signatures . The house has a bad past especially in 2017 when the house was banned for three years due to harassing the Women’s March they yelled things like “no means yes.” During this time they were abusing alcohol and hazing in their fraternity.
